February 27, 2011 – M4.7 Greenbrier, Arkansas Earthquake

February 27, 2011
Greenbrier, Arkansas
At approximately 11:00PM local time on Sunday February 27, 2011 a magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck near Greenbrier, Arkansas.  The epicenter is located away from the New Madrid Seismic Zone, but near an area of higher seismic activity since October 2010.  The earthquake is the highest magnitude earthquake to strike Arkansas since 1969.

This earthquake was felt in at least seven states by nearly 5,000 people according to the US Geological Survey.  There were no reports of casualties or fatalities from the earthquake. No damage is expected to be reported.
